Corporate versus Corporate. Know matter who wins, you the consumer lose. Fisher broadcast is suing DISH networks for breach of contract. Fisher states that they only want whats fair and equitable in the T.V. market. So how does this effect you. Well if you live in the pacific Northwest, and you have DISH for a provider, then you no longer can receive these channels: KOMO and KUNS in Seattle, KIMA and KUNW in Yakima, KATU in Portland, KVAL in Eugene, KBCI in Boise, KIDK in Idaho Falls, and KBAK and KBFX in Bakersfield.

“Financially stacked,” Dish will inevitably hold their ground, and we believe Fisher Broadcast will have to cater to the demands of DISH. Even though DISH may seem subservient to Directv, they still hold enough Capital, and enough Market withstand a court battle. Mean while consumers who are being effected by this will not only lose their favorite shows, but they are also put in greater risk. As of right now most of these markets effected are having a very harsh battle with weather. So emergency broadcast via television have just been restricted to 1 fewer channel.

Fisher broadcast has in good faith tried to settle this matter in the short term “In light of the inclement weather impacting much of the Pacific Northwest and concerns about public safety, Fisher attempted to extend the expiration of the current agreement until Monday, December 22 to ensure that DISH customers in the region could continue to receive news and weather updates. However, DISH rejected the Company’s proposal.1

As of December 20th DISH has not posted any public comments or news release on their website.

This really comes as no surprise since DISH networks has always taken a firm stance to entitlements. This same action cost them nearly 10,000 subscribers in the 3rd quarter of 2008. Who knows maybe this is just a precursor of things to come. DISH fights Fisher broadcasting, DISH will most likely claim victory. However this action could cost them more in subscriptions. Is there a merger in the future for DISH? Will someday DISH be known as Direct DISH? XM and Sirius did it, and look how many customers they have lost collectively due to cancelled station.

I really miss having Fisher, KVAL. Does anyone know how to cancel Dish without paying early termination fees? Its seems to me that dish broke our contract.

  2. Visit their website, and look at their terms of service. Look for the terms of service https://customersupport.dishnetwork.com/dishbuilder/pdf/dha_agrrement.pdf read through, if at the end you find that they “Dish” are allowed to cancel service or channels with out just cause than you cannot do anything, however if you find nothing in their terms of service that say they have the right to “drop” a channel than you have just cause for cancellation. When you call to notify them, be prepared for a scripted response were they will tell you that you will be charged for “early cancellation. Ask for second level support, let Dish know you will follow this up with the FCC, and you possibly will seek legal action if your credit report reflects any negative marks. We will post some legal help regarding this as soon as we can get some of our lawyer buddies to chime in.
